La street photography – o fotografia di strada – è la forma d’arte che racconta al meglio la contemporaneità. Il termine “street” indica un luogo generico segnato dall’attività umana […] La fotografia di strada riproduce attimi di assoluta realtà, ai quali ogni fotografo imprime una propria cifra artistica. […] Spesso questi istanti visivi raccontano più di ciò che mostrano: aspetti inediti della società, attimi di vita vissuta, angoli segreti della Città, contrasti e contraddizioni della modernità, celebrazioni della bellezza o narrazioni del degrado urbano.
La tecnica della street poggia quasi interamente sull’occhio, sul tempismo e la sensibilità personale dell’autore, che gli permettono di essere lì, nel posto giusto, al momento giusto, per comporre l’inquadratura che restituisce quel fugace frammento di quotidianità. Il fotografo di strada mette in risalto l’inosservato, rende speciale e unica la normalità.

The technique of the street photography relies almost entirely on the eye, timing and personal sensibility of the author, allowing him to be there, in the right place at the right time, to compose the shot that returns that fleeting fragment of everyday life. Una volta Paul Hirsch mi ha detto: ‘Un film dovrebbe essere già tutto lì, nel primo taglio’. La stessa cosa è vera per i libri. Penso che poter risolvere l’incoerenza o la narrazione noiosa con qualcosa di così secondariamente importante come una seconda bozza sia un fatto raro.”
